GRAPES
Among the grapes that compose Frascati DOC and DOCG wines, the Malvasias are essential and must account for 70% in blends.
The most characterizing and, in some ways, the most 'ancient' is Malvasia Puntinata (alias 'del Lazio'). Recognizable by its round form and the typical apical 'spot', a thick skin, firm flesh, it endows the wines with fruity notes, body, aroma and persistence. Resulting in extremely interesting variety amongst typical white grapes.
The Malvasia di Candia, especially local clones, express vinosity and a fresh acidic crispness. When trained in Guyot or Cazenave systems, the Tuscolana territory is particularly well suited.
Greco, Bombino, Trebbiano Giallo, Grechetto, Bellone, complete the principal grapes of Frascati wines and, with their varying percentages according to the area they are grown and their inclusion in the wines, they give a splendid variety of products. Rediscovering olfactory notes and tastes that were previously thought unobtainable to such levels!
Today, each individual cellar expresses its 'own' Frascati; the great and historic biodiversity of our vineyards is allowing us to save a heritage of grapes that has produced, for centuries, some of the best wines in the world.
Words of the President of the Frascati Wine Consortium, Mauro de Angelis.
