Frascati Wine Tour at the Principe Pallavicini Historic Winery
Are you serious about your wine? Do you like good quality wines? The Principe Pallavicini Estate is a working winery exporting to the US, UK, Scandinavia, Russia, Hong Kong and many other countries. They make award winning wines. This beautiful and historic Estate, has been in the Pallavicini Family (one of the most ancient and important noble families in Italy) since 1670, when Maria Camilla Pallavicini married Clement IX's nephew Giovan Battista Rospigliosi; but the winery was already providing wine to Pope Gregory XIIIth at the end of the 16th Century, whilst in the hands of the Ludovisi-Boncompagni family. This is a gorgeous winery covering 90 hectares of beautiful Castelli Romani countryside, of which 65 are dedicated to vines. And great EV Olive oil too!
Take a short train journey from Rome Termini (25 minutes!) to reach Colle Mattia Station, just 5 minutes from the Principe Pallavicini winery, and you will be away from the chaos and in an absolutely unique and historic place. Get a taste of the rural and bucolic Castelli Romani.
Colle Mattia is within the Rome greater council so you can use regular ATAC tickets (as long as you haven't already used up your one ride on the metro), cost is €1.50 each way!

Principe Pallavicini has contributed to maintaining the traditions of this territory and its well-being over the years. As well as making 12 different wines (exported to various parts of the World), they also produce a fine Extra virgin olive oil from 1200 olives tree, some of which are centuries old (EVOO only available at the estate). The property is spread over three areas which include a hill called the 'Pasolina', and characterizes the whole surrounding landscape with its Medieval tower and terraced vineyards; 'Le Marmorelle' where vinification and ageing take place and tastings are carried out in the 'fruit-shed', an ancient barn. Then there is 'Colonna', where the 'Osteria della Colonna' is and now houses more tasting rooms, the bottling plant and wine shop. This Osteria, and old Post station used for tastings in the winter, was mentioned in various Grand Tour guides (18th - 19th centuries) as a place to stay and refresh, and was a reference point for travellers.
